The Naples Players Season Playbill

Sample of TNP 2017-18 Playbill Covers
Design concept, writing, and photography by Patrice Shields.

Issue: For 63 years, The Naples Players season playbill was printed four times a year for each of their four main season shows. The same playbill was distributed at each show throughout the year with specific show inserts sewn in. Advertising revenue was declining due to lack of perceived value and return and audiences were not being inspired to donate, volunteer or engage in the theatre’s additional offerings.

Solution: To create a more compelling playbill that would engage audiences and add value for advertisers and sponsors, I created one core playbill with 4 unique covers and centerfold feature stories highlighting key features that the theatre wanted to promote. Printing was done in one run for a significant cost saving and each playbill appeared to be new and unique, including the key promotions for the theatre, while advertisers enjoyed five times the exposure.

Project H.U.G.S. is a volunteer-run non-profit that has been supporting suicide loss survivors in Naples, Florida for 34 years. Knowing that suicide rates have risen dramatically, they did not feel they were reaching enough new survivors and with their limited resources. By adding a website, setting up a free email system, ensuring they were listed on national websites, adding print materials, listing them with the Community Foundation and securing a Google ad grant for them, attendance at their weekly support group meeting has tripled and they have added additional twice-monthly meetings at Valerie’s House for new survivors.

Canine Companions for Independence a national organization that matches highly trained service dogs with children and adults who need assistance. CCI wanted to upgrade its image through its annual gala and its accompanying auction catalog. Through working with an artist who incorporated CCI’s service dogs in an original art piece for the gala, their catalog stood out as unique and bidworthy. Concept and design by Patrice Shields
