The Naples Players’ (TNP) ETC Readers Theatre present their One-Act Play Festival celebrating playwright Rich Orloff on Saturday, April 7, 2018; 2:00pm and David Ives on Sunday, April 8, 2018; 7:00pm. ETC Readers Theatre of The Naples Players offers original one-act play readings, daring dramas, and classic works performed with scripts in hand and without props or costumes. The focus is on the written word! Join us for an intimate but relaxed evening of play readings.
Saturday, April 7, 2:00pm Celebrates Rich Orloff. The relationship between man and woman is explored in a highly comedic and whimsical afternoon. One-Acts to be Performed:
Eve and Adam: The Untold Story – God is a woman, and Eve is made first, in this rib-tickling comedy.
Off the Map – In a very cold place, a penguin helps a lost couple find direction.
Can This Marriage Be Saved – Such a trial! The human being wants a divorce from God and takes Him to court.
Oedi –This farcical retelling of the Oedipus Rex story confronts the overlooked fact that if Oedipus married his mother, she had to be old enough to be his mother. When Oedipus’ two advisors first explain to him that he married his mother, he’s distraught. But Jocasta and the advisors only want to find a way to spin the story so that Oedipus looks good.
Sunday, April 8, 7:00pm Celebrates David Ives. Ives is known for his snappy dialogue and incredibly clever scenarios. This is a playwright who has something to say and you’ll want to hear it. One-Acts to be Performed:
Captive Audience – A cautionary fable tells how Rob and Laura face a menace in their living room: a television that talks back to them and threatens to swallow them whole.
Sure Thing – Two people meet in a cafe and find their way through a conversational minefield as an offstage bell interrupts their false starts, gaffes, and faux pas on the way to falling in love.
English Made Simple – A young man and woman meet at a party, and their immediate romantic attraction is translated into comically unromantic grammar lessons as they struggle to free themselves from the banal constrictions of party talk.
Long Ago & far Away – A domestic drama of a troubled young wife who finds herself crossing through time—and identities—on a fateful winter evening in an empty apartment.
Bolero – A woman’s world threatens to come apart in the middle of the night, when she and her husband hear strange sounds and voices coming through their bedroom wall.
